The female interrogated him as she soon called the cops, Abe was then hand cuffed. The FBI interrogated him about his religion and threatened his immigration status. Since his status of immigration was up for renewal. This meant that Abe was defenseless and could have been deported. From the beginning of the play to the last scene Abe’s character begins to shift in this point of the play as he doesn’t feel that deportation might be so bad. He feels this way because he wouldn’t have to face racial profiling from Americans. In addition, Abe gave up in pretending being something that simply did not fit his identity, which was being American. In scene 4, Abe announces that he has proudly changed back to his birth name: “I changed it back!”, therefore declaring that he has accepted his religion and identity (Akhtar 84). Another example that illustrates that Abe is a round and dynamic character is that in the beginning of the play he admired his uncle “I looked up to you”, because he was so successful working at a law firm (Akhtar 84). To contrast, in the final scene Abe realizes that his uncle is not the person he wanted to look up to, for the reason that his uncle tried to forget about his “own people” rather than embrace where he came from and what his religion is.
