There are many Disney movies which are targeting to entertain children, such as Shrek2 and Shrek3. However, are they suitable for children? Will the kids truly understand the meaning behind the story, or they just blindly follow what the stereotypes act in the fairy tale? In the theme of the Shrek 2, it conveys the message that, no matter what, you have to be true to yourself. Besides, inner beauty is more essential than physical charm. In Shrek3, it empathizes on the impotency of family. In the movie, Shrek is an ogre who is disliked by many people. Though he’s an ogre, he loves peace and has a solitude heart. Donkey is Shrek’s best friend. It is an excitable, hyperactive donkey. Puss, with flashing sword and trademark boots, is a confident and loyal warrior. Prince charming has a great look. However, he is a veined, selfish and spoiled person. Fairy Godmother is a wicked and ambitious person. She always appears to be good, but she actually has her own purpose behind everything she has done.
By watching the move of Shrek2 and Shrek3, I found out that there are various scenes including boosting body image. In Shrek2, with the song of Fairy Godmother, she tells Princess Fiona that a high priced dress, some crystal glass pumps will make her stress disappear. By putting on lipstick, shadowing blush, vanishing her blemishes and tooth decay; she can find her prince someday. It’s not suitable for children because it is implicitly pursuing the audience by making themselves fancy, and following the fashion trend, they can get happiness easily and a higher self-esteem. Hence, in Shrek2 there are many magic potions. It states that when you drink the potion, you can be a different person. Moreover, even transgender woman, the king’s step-sister, is introduced in Shrek2 and Shrek3.
