Diversity Class Reflection
My second grade class of 2016-2017 is the class I will be using to demonstrate that I have shown growth in the Diversity Standard. I cannot say that I had an ethnically diverse class because 98.5% of our school population are Hispanic as well as myself. Our school is located in a very low-socioeconomic area. This school year 50% of my class are English Language Learners. My class also consists of 7 students with exceptionalities. (1 Autistic Student, 4 Gifted students, 1 Deaf student and 1 BI student) Seventy-three percent of my students were developed according to their TPRI/Tejas Lee Assessment by the middle of the school year. By implementing literacy centers I was able to work with small groups and made sure I service all of their needs. …show more content…
By attending TCEA (Texas Computer Education Association) Best Practices for Integrating Technology with English Language Learners training allowed me to use technology to better serve my ELL students. By attending SIOP Training I was able to deliver lessons that allow ELL students to acquire academic knowledge as they develop English language proficiency.     The important of cultural diversity in Maryland is on the rise. Attending a school with a diverse student body can help prepare your child for citizenship in a multicultural democracy.
