Diversity means that there are many different variations of things such as different beliefs, cultures ways of living and that everybody is different and we are all unique.
Everybody has different likes, dislikes and this is why we should all respect each other’s wishes and choices and basic human rights.
Equality
Equality is treating everyone as equals regardless of their race, gender, sexual orientation, age and disabilities.
Inclusion
Inclusion means to include a person/persons in all aspects of life, whether it be decision making to arranging a day out.
Inclusion is a human right and no one should be made to feel left out, it is very important to include people to promote well being, self worth and to promote independence, person centred approach and person centred planning play a big role in including a person to make their own choices and decisions and to be included in that process.
Discrimination
Discrimination means not including people maybe because of their beliefs, race, and sexual orientation
How could discrimination occur in the work place either deliberately or by accident?
Deliberately –could take place if individuals are treated unfairly to others because of their gender, race, ethnicity, culture, disability, religion, sexuality, class, mental health or age.
Accidently- could take place when a rule or policy that applies equally to everybody is more restrictive for people from a certain group. For example, if a policy procedure is in English, this puts people whose first language is not English at an unfair disadvantage and could be seen as indirect discrimination.
How does good practice prevent discrimination?
Good practice prevents discrimination by ensuring each individual is treated in the same way, regardless to their ability, you should explain everything you are doing and go through the details of any produces you carry out and ensure it suitable for everyone.

Human rights act 1998
Disability Discrimination Act 1995
Race relations Act 2000

How would you challenge discrimination to promote change?
The way that you would challenge discrimination to promote change is to discuss the reasons why certain practises are in place. Provide evidence to demonstrate how changes can be made which help prevent discriminatory practise. To promote change you need to change people’s attitude toward other races, sexuality, religion etc.
Name some sources of information, advice, and support and how and when would you access the information, advice support?
Some sources of information and advice are: Sector Skills Councils e.g. Skills for Health, Skills for Care Professional organisations e.g Nursing and Midwifery Council, government websites for current legislation and guidelines; books, internet, leaflets, Policies and procedures. You can also access information and advice from colleagues; feedback on own practice; liaison with community leaders and organisations. You would access information, support and advice when you are trying to obtain information in order to support an individual correctly.
