We are told that people with mental illness are not treated well in the society, yet that doesn't stop them from being who they are today. In the film ‘The Dark Horse’ directed by James Napier Robertson we could see how Genesis was treated by the people he is surrounded by. For example at ‘The gang house’ they treated him like he didn’t exist and just made fun of him. Whereas at ‘The clubhouse’ he was more open and free because they let him be. They let him live his passion for helping kids have a better future. This made me wonder why people with mental illness gets criticized and judged for having a disorder. My hypothesis is that people with mental illness in New Zealand get really good care. More because the stereotypical theories that they get compared to, and how they can be easily judged by people. I now understand why there are people sitting outside shopping centers, on the side of the street, or on Queen street in city. But you have to understand where the person is coming from and for all we know, the people on the side of the street could’ve had a mental illness in a past life. Most people who have been diagnosed with mental illness are to scared to tell people, because they are afraid that they are going to get judged. In some cases that's true but on the other hand if you don’t ask for help you won't get. No one can read your mind. I know for a fact that it’s their fault for ending where they are now. But like I said before, I have not seen the government do anything for them. However we can stand up and make a change in world, just like how Genesis did in the film. He used the game of chess to change the lives of those young people, and turned the clubhouse into a family that reunited together just like the chess board
