Do You Agree or Disagree with the Following Statement: Movies and Television Have More Negative Effects Than Positive Effects on the Way Young People Behave.
Do you agree or disagree with the following statement: Movies and television have more negative effects than positive effects on the way young people behave.
From my point of view, movies and television have more negative effects than positive effects on the way young people behave.
First, movies have negtive effects on young people. There are many movies containing some violent and bloody scenes advocating the so-called brotherhood, which is indeed a presentation of the will to maintain interest and power for which the gangsters groups fight through violent conflicts.Take the famous American film "Once upon a time in America" for an example: youngsters especially boys were influented by the film and became inclined to imitate the roles in the movie, beating their classmates and talking dirty.
Another bad situation lies in Japanese anime presented in films and broadcasted on TV which can block more active, direct involvement in real life. Due to the negtive effects of these animations, young people can gradually form an unsocial personality. For instance , several classmates of mine are crazy about watching Japanese absurd anime specially that of sadness and eschatology. And they barely go to class and even do not attend group activities, eventually become lonely and incommunicative.
Admittedly, movies and televisions ,to some extent, have some positive effect on the way young people behave. For example , young people could have access to fress news about what is happening across the world and latest criticisms and comments on international events. Meanwhile, younsters can also watch some talk shows talking jokes and funny stories which make people relaxed. However, these substantial infomation innundating have an obvious flaw. That is the way TV operates is unilateral. People tend to regard what they have received from TV is always true. But,the fact is , lots of TV shows create controversial topics of discussion just to attempt to win audience ratings, thus, the aggressive comments in these shows are probably misleading young people.\
From what has been discussed above, there might be one or two positive effects of movies and televisions on young people's behavior, however,I believe that there far more negtive effects.

Visual entertainment media is a part of everyday life, anywhere from cellphones, television, internet, newspaper, etc. All of the forms of visual entertainment media have helped shaped America, also the culture and values that have developed over the years. The most common visual entertainment media form that has shaped, influenced, the culture and values in America is cable television. Cable television covers so many different forms within itself, news channels, religious channels, debate channels, and different types of local television programs. Each of these channels carries their own message, with entertainment values that are viewed by the person watching the program. Many forms of visual entertainment carry a negative social influence message, self-education is important on these types of visual entertainment in order to determine what best fits your personal situation. If there are, guidelines that are set on, what type of visual entertainment are acceptable, internet access, cell phone access, and television channels. Than the amount of negative influence, someone may be subjected to can be cut down dramatically, giving the opportunity for positive experiences to be put in its place. The idea of visual entertainment media is to help spread education, and social entertainment purposes. One way to ensure that this is the experience that is shared is to limit what you make available to your family and how much is acceptable. I think that it is very easy for adolescent minds to be subjected to influence, both positive and negative depending on what their social surrounding support frequently. If a child is exposed to violent, sexual, or death filled entertainment, it is more likely for them to incorporate these things into their everyday social environment. This affects their social behavior and attitudes to not only peers, but also any given situation. The influences these entertainment types have can either become a person or just be a part of everyday…

The social influences of the visual entertainment media have been more negative than positive. For example YouTube has millions of video up where most of them depict something of negativity or something of no substance. There are so many videos of people fighting than there are of someone speaking out to promote non-violence. There are also sexually explicit videos where you see a person has millions of hits. Also movies have become so much more violent these days that young people are easily influenced by them, kids look up to famous actors/actresses. I think it is up to us as parents to make sure we monitor what our children do.…

Since the 1920’s, when the first television was invented, to the 1980’s, when the internet was created, the media has developed and became a significant component of our everyday lives. Everywhere we go we are surrounded by televisions, billboards, computer screens, magazines and newspapers. The media has a massive influence on society as a whole, but teens are impacted the most. Since human behavior is influenced by what an individual sees, the effect is greater at a younger age. Present day media has a detrimental effect on teenagers, especially pertaining to violence, sex, and the influence of alcohol and drugs. How many movies and cartoons on the television show that violence is okay, that violence resolves problems, that violence is funny? In 1952, the U.S. Senate held hearings to determine if media violence contributes to adolescent aggression. The answer now is clear: It can (Children). The average child sees 12,000 violent acts on television annually, including many depictions of murder and rape (Impacts). Studies show what exposure to watching too much television increases the risk that a child will be aggressive (James). In shows, perpetrators go unpunished 73% of the time (Media). Parents of young children need to understand that exposing their children to PG-13 and R-rated movies that contain a lot of violence can also be quite scary and produce anxiety (Children). Music is another huge problem involving the influence of sex. Lyrics in the past years have become more of a reference to sex, drugs, suicide, sexually transmitted diseases, ECT (Media). Teens struggling with any of those problems will be attracted to the music that expresses their feelings. It is not just song lyrics that can influence teens; it is also the music videos. A lot of music videos show inappropriate behaviors and false stereotypes. More than half of the music videos contain violence that is often…

I agree that television shows influences our behaviors even without our knowledge of it. Although television seems like a great thing to have, it has many drawbacks. Television can have negative impacts on people, especially kids. People learn new skills by observing, then utilizing it, such as when we were kids and learn to walk by seeing our family walking around or learning a new subject in school. Therefore, when watching television it may influence our fundamental social dispositions; no matter if it is good or bad. Almost ninety nice percent of households possess one television. Television is today’s source of news, stories, legends, and characters from previous centuries; the reason why it is so influential. However, only “0.7 percent is used for public service announcements and news”(Sex, violence, profanity...). The other 97.3 % consists of television shows with violence, crime, advertisements and mainstream blandness. Many studies and research has been done to demonstrate that heavy television viewing may lead to serious health consequences. Television is great for entertainment but has grown into a major problem.…

Studies show that violence on television does have a bad affect on young people and the way they think and act. Television has the potential to generate both positive and negative effects, and many studies have looked at the impact of television on society, particularly on children and adolescents (1,2). An individual child’s developmental level is a critical factor in determining whether the medium will have positive or negative effects. Not all television programs are bad, but data showing the negative effects of exposure to violence, inappropriate sexuality and offensive language are convincing (3). Still, physicians need to advocate continued research into the negative and positive effects of media on children and adolescents.…

Television viewing is a major activity and influence on children and adolescents. People complain that certain TV shows are having negative effects on their children. The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP) both feel that TV does influence the behavior of children as young as one year old. From their studies, the AACAP states, “Children who view shows in which violence is very realistic, frequently repeated or unpunished, are more likely to imitate what they see” (as cited in Wilcox, 2004) This speaks to the impressionable mindsets of young children, who are still learning control of their minds and bodies, and are likely to mimic what they see, as it seems quite normal to them. Everything that children see or hear in the media early on in their lives affects them in some way. Violence, sexuality, race and gender stereotypes, drug and alcohol abuse are common themes of television programs. The Academy of Pediatrics says “More than one thousand scientific studies and reviews conclude that significant exposure to media violence increases the risk of aggressive behavior…

A movie or television can be a bad influence to the people’s behavior when it shows a harsh, not suitable for their age concept. But of course it still depends upon the viewer if they will copy or imitate those types of movies. For example, I have a friend who is very fond in watching action movies that includes guns, killing people, or fist fighting. He sometimes acquire these behaviors in real life, but not the guns and killing people part, that he is being called in the office for a reason that he had a fight with his classmate. There is also a time when I was in his house and I always see that he wrestles with his siblings. Through these situations, I can see that movies had really influenced his behavior.…
