Course Description:
DOC 100D is designed to provide a broad overview of the histories of multiple communities and to explore the struggle for social justice in the United States. Topics include social movements, shifting ideas about "race" and gender, the rise of corporate power, and the transformation of higher education.
Required Texts:
◆ 2013 DOC 100D Reader – to be provided to students in class ◆ A Different Mirror: A History of Multicultural America by Ronald Takaki (There will be several copies of this book on reserve at Geisel Library; photocopies may also be provided.) ◆ Handouts and Websites – to be provided by Dr. Gagnon ◆ University e-mail messages – Official communications from Dr. Gagnon and/or the DOC office will be sent to enrolled students’ @ucsd.edu e-mail addresses.
