Domestic Violence & Abuse
Domestic violence and abuse is an undeniable issue in this day and age which all people know to be wrong. Domestic abuse can take various forms from direct violence to psychological damage, but in all instances is wrong. The term Domestic defines this type of abuse as spousal or abuse within a relationship between one or both of the partners included. Commonly, domestic violence can be excused or denied by the victim in light of fear or shame. Domestic violence escalates from threats and verbal abuse to violent actions in most cases. The victim does not always think that their partner could truly hurt them, therefore they ignore the problem, but eventually they are put in a violent situation which is not their fault and all people would say is wrongful and vindictive. Domestic violence occurs in all ranges of relationships no matter their economic stability, age, or ethnic backgrounds. Also, while women are most commonly found subject to domestic abuse in a relationship, men are also abused. There are many signs of an abusive relationship including explosions of rage and manipulation as well as put downs and excessive critique of one’s partner. The true nature of domestic violence is abusive and can escalate from verbal to physical very quickly. Overall, domestic violence should not be ignored and is a major issue in society today.
Domestic abuse can tarnish the sanctity of a marriage or relationship and completely break the trust between partners. A marriage is supposed to be a loving and caring, reciprocal relationship but domestic violence turns this relationship into violence and fear. Specific principles domestic abuse violates are honesty and trust. This kind of abuse also directly disobeys the virtues of love and faith and by abusing one of God’s children, one is not only hurting that person but also God.
