Donald Hall was born on September 20th, 1928 in New Haven Connecticut. He was born to a loving mother by the name of Lucy Wells Hall, and a father, Donald Andrew Hall Sr. who was a great businessman in his day. Hall Grew up on a little farm by the name of Eagle’s Pond in New Hampshire. In his youth he would live in New Haven during the school year and travel back to Eagle’s Pond during the summers. Hall went to local High schools in New Haven and was in the Boy Scouts which to him was just a way to get away from home. His poetry really excelled when he was in his high school years because he had hours upon hours of time during study halls to really think on his poetry. This is also when he began to evolve from writing just to be attractive to the girls to actually falling in love with real poetry. He also started revising which showed professionalism because most young writers at the time never revised. Being a great poet and editor at the time he was invited to join The Bread Loaf Writers Club which was a highly respected group of remarkable poets at the time despite the name. Hall was admitted into the club in 1945 and was actually the only 16 year old ever admitted into the bread loaf writers club. This club is also where he first really officially started his career in editing and where he met the great Robert Frost. However, Hall did not stop after high school but instead chose to further his education in the english department at Harvard university. He Graduated from Harvard as class of 1951. Two years later Hall received his Bachelor of Literature degree from Oxford university in the year of 1953. After this, Hall also studied a year at Stanford University. These years of
