1) Give a brief description of the narrative, what are the cause and effect links, which propel the narrative?
Walter Neff is a successful insurance salesman for Pacific All Risk returning who sits down at his desk and tells a story into a Dictaphone to Keyes. A story about how Walter meets Phyllis during a house call to renew an automobile insurance policy for her husband. A flirtation occurs not until Phyllis wonders how she could take out a policy on her husband’s life without him knowing but Walter wants no part of it.
Phyllis being exceptionally persuasive, Walter assists with all his knowledge with trade and comes up with a plan with Mr. Dietrichson will die an unlikely death, in a case of being thrown from a train. Pacific All Risk will require by ‘double indemnity policy and will pay Phyllis twice the normal amount.
Keyes a firm investigator does not suspect such at first but concludes that the Phyllis and some other unknown person in crime must be behind the crime. Neff wasn’t worries too much of Keyes but until Mr. Dietrichson’s daughter comes into place and convinces that Phyllis is behind Mr. Dietrichson’s death as her mother also died from suspicious circumstances when she was a nurse.
Neff begins to care about Lola and learns that Phyllis is seeing Lola’s boyfriend Nino being his back. Neff begins to care about the money and believes he can make the police believe that Phyllis and Nino did the murder at which Keyes already believes. Although, when Neff comes over to Phyllis’s house, Phyllis admits that she is seeing Lola’s boyfriend provoke him into killing Lola as well.
Neff not considering the murder and attempts to kill Phyllis but is shot first. Neff is badly wounded still standing and walking towards her telling her to shoot again. Phyllis explains that he never loved Nino but love Neff instead. Neff not buying and shoots Phyllis. After the murder, he convinces Nino not to go inside the house, as she
