Dr. Gray
Dr. Kenneth Edelin Kenneth Edelin was an obstetrician who performed abortions at Boston General Hospital during the 1970`s. In one case, the doctor performed an abortion on a seventeen-year-old girl named Yvette, even though there was nothing wrong with her or the baby. The mother just simply did not want to mother a child. The exact age of the embryo was unknown, but thought to be around the twenty-second to twenty-fourth week of pregnancy. Dr. Edelin cut through the placental wall and then removed the fetus from the mother`s uterus. Dr. Edelin had many issues at stake when performing the abortion and below I will decide what would be the best decision based on the facts presented in the case

Unless you are raped, I feel like every person should be at least eighteen years old to even be considered for an abortion. An abortion is a very big decision that could affect you for the rest of your life. I knew a girl that by the age of eighteen she had already had three or four abortions. Not because she was raped or because anything bad happened to her, but because she kept getting pregnant and didn’t want to have a baby. Now at the age of twenty, she is pregnant again and has decided to keep the baby. She always talks about how the abortion affected her life negatively. Her parents did not know about the abortions until about a year ago, and they were greatly dishonored by her decisions. Her father no longer speaks to her because of what she did and took away her car, as well as stopped paying for her tuition for college. I do not agree that his actions were the smartest choice, but this is evidence supporting that an abortion not only effects your life, but also effects the people around you. He was so disappointed in her decisions, he will not even look at her. I think if she would have been older, she would have made smarter decisions. I think a decision as big as an abortion should be discussed with your parents if you are still a minor. I also believe that if you are having sex, you know the consequences of what might happen. Being unsafe is what causes …show more content…
Edelin would have realized, upon removing the fetus, that something might go wrong when removing the baby, I understand that the mother has all autonomy over the baby`s life. According to the scenario, the removal of the fetus would have caused no further harm to the mother or would have not caused any more surgical techniques performed by Dr. Edelin. If the baby will no longer cause harm or suffering to the mother, then why would they have the right to decide whether the baby lives or dies. There are plenty of families in the world that would love to have a child, so they could have taken different actions that would deter from killing an innocent baby. Even if the mother could not take care of the child or wouldn’t have been able to give it the love that a baby needs, then she should have thought of other actions, considering if the doctor would have informed her that there is a change that the baby might still live outside of the mother’s

Induced abortion is just one of the multitudes of bioethical dilemmas that a physician is charged with confronting. The act of inducing abortion is a controversial subject that involves many potentially competing factors such as an individual’s moral and religious compass, what rights an unborn fetus has and the rights that a woman has over her own body. In the case of a 16 year-old girl who is pregnant as a result of incest and seeking an abortion, my role as the practitioner would be to put the health of the patient first - above all personal bias.…

According to legal precedents, Abrams said, doctors should have determined if the fetus was "viable," or could survive outside of the womb without medical heroics. There also should have been a second opinion, he said. I believe this is a prime example of why we need the “patient’s bill of rights” and the use of needing a second opinion.…

The State may require a minor to obtain consent from a parent or guardian, or authorization from a court in order to undergo an abortion. A minor may benefit from consultation with their parents prior to undergoing the procedure, as children will often not realize that their parents have their best interests at heart.…

The rights of the mother exceed the rights of the unborn child, because she has spent (however many years) getting to wherever she is in life therefore, why should her life be taken away because of one mistake she has made, by something that does not know who she is or what her situation may be. By saying that the rights of the unborn child are greater, is saying that the creator of the life is inferior to the life itself and that makes no sense…

Wade, I have never lived in a time when abortion was not a legal option. The supreme court ruling allows young women like me to terminate a pregnancy for any reason. although I have never been put in a position in which I would be required to make this kind of decision, the fact that I have the fundamental right is something that I value. Abortion is always going to be a highly divisive issue, largely due to religion and morals, but I firmly believe that a women’s right to privacy is essential. I am concerned with governmental changes that have been made in the past few decades, that are chipping away that fundamental right. Currently, some states required parental consent for minors to obtain an abortion. Parental consent can be an especially sensitive issue for pregnant teenagers coming from abused homes, as these young women may not have positive parental influences. It is my personal belief that until the fetus is viable outside of the womb, it is not a human being. However, I also believe that abortion should not be used as a form of birth control, and measures should be taken to not get pregnant. But, if a woman is choosing to terminate her pregnancy she should have the right to do so. I believe that a woman should be able to have an abortion at any time in her life, just because a teenage mother chooses to have a baby at seventeen, does not mean that she should not be able to terminate an unwanted pregnancy when she is thirty-five. I do have a…

Everyday, innocent, harmless fetuses that could soon be laughing children are being brutally destroyed. One form of abortion is to cut the fetus into pieces with serrated forceps before being removed, piece by piece from the uterus by suction with a vacuum aspirator. Another form consists of bringing the fetus feet first into the birth canal, puncturing its skull with a sharp instrument and sucking out the brain tissue. The body parts, such as the head, are given letters, rather than refer to the parts as what they are. In my opinion this is for the doctors who cannot face the reality of what they are doing. The remains of the fetus or embryo, as the case may be, are put into everyday, plastic buckets and then sent to a dumpster where these precious bones and limbs are disposed. However, how and when an abortion takes place are matters of little importance to pro- abortionists and other defenders. Even former abortion practitioners from varying backgrounds and religions have a new view on abortion. These changes of heart were caused by psychological, religious and scientific reasons. One doctor, Dr. Bernard Nathanson, performed 60,000 abortions and supervised 10,000, before scientific evidence and the use of an ultrasound, convinced him he was promoting and participating what he now calls "the most atrocious holocaust in the history of the United States." Other doctors refuse to perform legal abortions, saying they should save lives rather than destroy…

52% of women under the age of 25 are guilty of having an abortion. Young women getting an abortion do not have enough life experience to fully understand what they are doing. This ends in the result of long life regret. Abortion often causes intense psychological pain and stress. Those at such a young age are too naïve to see that abortion is not a contraceptive. Women need to take responsibility for their actions and not getting rid of their problems. It is simply ending the life of an innocent child for their own Irresponsibility. The child is not the one who should be punished. Not only will choosing abortion lead to psychological pain but it also can increase ectopic pregnancy, miscarriage and pelvic inflammatory disease.…

In most of the United States, a minor must have a parental consent before undergoing the procedure of abortion. This is a problem because many of the girls who become pregnant become fearful and attempt suicide, run away, or they commit crimes, such as killing their new born. The law deprives teens of their rights and their privacy. In developing countries, as many…

First, Termination abortion is similar to killing an innocent baby into the mother's womb.” In fact, 3 out of 10 women in the U.S. have an abortion by the time they are 45 years old.”(planned parenthood) Life begins the moment of conception. Unplanned pregnancy should not prevent a child from a chance of life. Abortion is a way for people to legally terminate their children so that they have easier lives. I think if a woman or teenager is "grown" enough to have sexual intercourse, than she better learn to take responsibility of her actions. People shouldn’t take it for granted by getting rid of their unwanted mistakes. Its common sense if you’re that much against yourself getting pregnant, than don’t take the risk of having sexual intercourse. A child that you abort could have a wonderful future. It could be the next president!…

There are many medical options when it comes to having an abortion. The issue I will be addressing is the morning after pill and the controversy of it being available to any age without a prescription. There are two sides to this debate. The first side is pro-pill and they feel it should be available to any age without a prescription. They feel that this is beneficial to girls who cannot talk with their parents about sex or girls who get rapped and are too embarrassed to tell their parents. They feel that making the morning after pill available to these girls will prevent unwanted pregnancy and will help these girls avoid emotional problems. The second side feels that making these pills available to any age takes the parent’s rights away. They feel that it will promote promiscuity and increase the risk of std’s. So the big question that needs answered is should the morning after pill be available to any age without a prescription? I think the best place to start would be with the health risks, if any, of the morning after pill.…

However, teenagers make their own decisions. Regardless of how many times parents can tell their child not to have sex, they end up doing it. It’s better to prevent a pregnancy before hand rather than regretting it and getting an abortion. Not to mention, in most states in the U.S abortion is illegal and this can consequently lead to a self made abortion, which has many risks for the fetus as well as the mother. Teenagers should be educated more about safe sex and…

Abortion issues represents a genuine ethical dilemma in the healthcare settings. Unfortunately, support for the physician's right of conscience has not been universal. In the U.S are now an estimated 1.5 million abortions each year making abortion the most common surgical procedure (Dr, 2017, p. 1264). Yet there are fewer and fewer abortion providers available. Some maintain that physicians who refuse to provide all legal services should have their professional licenses revoked. Opponents voice two reasons for objection: Doctors no longer have extraordinary privileges because of the prominence accorded to patient autonomy; and doctors have the duty to provide all legal services.…

In today’s society, pregnancy is extremely common. Hundreds of babies are born every single day. Pregnancy comes mainly from young adults, older adults, and in many cases these days, even teens. Pregnancy does not always happen by choice. With the case where the pregnant women does not want the baby, there is a procedure called an abortion. Briefly, an abortion is when after finding out they are pregnant, women can go to their doctor and intentionally terminate their pregnancy. For the last decade, it has been a debate whether abortions are correct or incorrect. Personally, I believe that abortions are completely correct. There are so many cases where women become pregnant at an incorrect time. The main reasons that abortions occur are due to teen pregnancy, the inability to support a child and contraceptive failure.…
