Lesson 1: Why in Prison?
The picture of the girl in the corner made me feel trapped and isolated because in the picture it seems like there is no way out or she’s locked in. The picture makes me wonder why she is in there, maybe for a reason; is she hiding? Did she get put in there? Is it her feelings? Has she being bullied? Is the coloured (green) her emotion? Her body language is closed up and shows me that she is not letting anyone or anything in. The girl looks like she is aged between 15-20, I say this because she looks fairly young and she could be in either in work clothes or school uniform. The girl looks upset because her body is hunched over and holding on tight on to her legs to show tension. I also thought that she could be scared, and she is hunched over because she don’t want anyone to see her or she feels safe in that position.
When I created my character I started walking a like young lady who was about 19, and who is lower-class, and is trying to show she isn’t bothered about anything. My body language was slanted and my eyes would give people dirty looks and I would analyse people by looking at them from head to toe because if my character done this it might make people feel insecure about themselves and would make herself feel better about herself. I spoke quite calmly, but I would get louder if I needed to. I spoke mostly non-standard English because she was bought up in the eastern side of London in a council house, she didn’t concentrate in school as much as she should of.
Hot seating helped me to develop my character by making me think on the spot and what my character would do. I had to also try and feel what the character would feel. One of the questions I got asked was ‘Why did you do it?’ my eye started to just stare at the person and I said ‘the baby
