Drivers Dangerous Habits
I stood there in disbelief as I watched a girl almost lose her life. A teenage girl was texting and driving as she drifted off the road and hit a telephone pole. Fortunately she lived, but this is not the case for the 40,000 U.S. residents that die on car accidents every year. There are an assortment of reasons why so many Americans die each year from car accidents. These reasons consist of eating while driving, putting on make up, speeding, texting and talking on the phone. Drivers have variety of dangerous habits that cause many car accidents.
Rubbernecking falls under the category of distracted drivers, which is the number one cause of car accidents. Rubbernecking is the act of turning your head to foolishly stare at something. If a person is driving by an accident they should focus on the road as opposed to the accident. I was driving to school when I saw that my friend had gotten in to an accident. As most drivers would, especially a new driver like myself, I stared at the situation and when I focused back n the road I had almost hit the car in front of me. Although I was lucky some people will not be and they will get into an accident. A dangerous driving habit that many people have almost got me into a car accident.
With 11,000 people dying from speeding each year, this makes it the number two cause of car accidents. Most of these speed racers are teenagers and new drivers. My sister, who falls under both of these categories, was speeding home from work at 10 p.m. With the combination of her speed and the lack of light outside she t-boned a turning car. Both drivers were okay, but both cars and our insurance were damaged badly. This was all caused by one of a drivers’ dangerous habits.
Last, but definitely not least, is using your phone while driving. Most of the people using their phone while driving are using it to text. According to www.Distraction.gov, sending or reading a text takes your eyes off the road for 4.6 seconds. At 55 mph, that's
