The term ‘drug’ has now been given a new connotation. It was used originally to means ‘medicine’. But now-a-days it means not only medicine, but also the fatal narcotics that include cocaine, heroin, brown sugar, and many other specifications. All these drugs have their evil effects on the mind and body cells of the addicts. The young generation is the worst victims of evils of Drug Addiction. The abuse of drug has become an international problem. Almost every country nowadays is facing the menace of drug abuse. Whether it is America, the most powerful country or it is India, one of the developing countries, the problem bothers both alike. The evil is increasing by leaps and bounds in the places like hostels and campuses of the universities and technical and professional institutions. The alarming rate of drug abuse has always been a problem and especially the increase of drug abuse among youngsters has had detrimental effects on the society. This is a big threat to society as the youth who is the future of tomorrow are digging deep into the evil which is ultimately lead them to death.
Several reasons are responsible for this great evil. It has been seen that growing boys and girls, due to lack of enough parental love and care, go astray. In the modern set up of families both husband and wife are in service and consequently are unable to share some time with their sons and daughters. As a result the young mind feels frustrated and lonely.The loss of parental love make them wander for love all around which make them to get attracted to so call friends. At this delicate juncture their so called friends, who are themselves drug-addicts, easily mislead them and induce them to find solace by taking drugs and narcotics. Once tasted, it becomes a habit very soon. It has been found that the drug-addicts cannot stay without the drug even for a short while. It is a situation when having no drugs lead them to become panic or they start trembling.
