Drunk Driving Imagine driving home from dinner with your family. You’r having a conversation with your parents and everything seems fine until a truck swerves into oncoming traffic all you see are headlights coming toward your car, before you realize it the truck smashes into the car you and your family are in. Drunk driving is the crime of driving a motor vehicle while impaired by alcohol or drugs. Drunk Driving is a serious problem in our society today. Consuming alcohol prior to driving greatly increases the risk of car accidents, highway injuries and vehicular deaths. Multiple people are killed every day because of drinking and driving. For example, in the article “Drunk Driving” it states that “The Massachusetts Supreme Court ruled in February 2012 that social hosts could be held liable for off-premise injury to people caused by the drunk driving of a guest only if the host served alcohol or made it available. People who host “bring your own” parties are free from liability, even if the guest is underage”(Drunk Driving). A host of a party may be held liable for a drunk driving accident if the host supplied the alcohol however if it was a bring your own party the host would not be held liable because they did not supply the alcohol. From the article “An interlock device in every new car 'could prevent 80% of drunk-driving deaths” it states, “people who are convicted of driving a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol are often required to get an alcohol interlock device, also known as an ignition interlock device, installed in their vehicle in order to prevent them from further engaging in drunk driving”(An interlock device). Since so many people are drunk driving they have finally made a device to not allow people who have been drinking alcohol to start their car.
