experiences identifying that the group experiences are mostly influenced by the characters who adopt the leadership roles, actions and also the words they use they to address the groups.
The film Lord of files is about a group of British boys of the age of 6 to 12 years of age who finds themselves on an inhabited island after the plane crash. The boys are the only survivors of the plane crash, and there is no adult to guide them or observe them. It is also during the time of war, so there is tension everywhere, and the hope of life is low. However, the first thing after the crash is that one of the boys finds a way to gather all the survivors together. Even though the boys are young, the first thing they do is to choose a leader. It signifies that it is the nature of the human beings to need a leader who's his role is usually to guide the way and offer insights on the issues that occur in the course of the life. It is because human beings have different background, and has differences in views; perceptions, values personalities, and their behavior vary. Ralph is …show more content…
the boy who is chosen as the leader in the first instance; however he does not gain support from all the members especially a group of much younger boys that is led by Jack. It indicates the nature of human leadership where one of the most difficult things is to gain support and to be agreed upon by all the people. Ralph as the leader to the group gives simple duties to the group that and yet it is clear that some of the members find it appropriate to diverge and carry out some other roles. The key goal of the boys in the film is to govern themselves out of the island by finding means that would guide them out of the island. However, it becomes difficult as it is to make a group of people that is not in cohesion to find a clear way to solve a problem. The group lacks cohesion and understanding and focus of their main course of action, and that is why at one stage of a ship that could have rescued them passes without them noticing. Social psychology elaborates that the motives of most human beings are aligned with peace and harmony.
However, not all of the human beings considers a situation peaceful or in harmony if they are not the ones who have the power and energy to enforce the rules. It is due to this aspects that there are the leadership differences and group disputes as it is portrayed in the film. The members of a group are easily influenced and disrupted to change their mind and their leader focusing on the person who holds a sign of power. The sign of power varies depending on the situation in which the human beings are and influences the behavior conduct greatly. In the case of the film, the sign of power is the glasses since they are the ones that are used to light the fire. Social psychology suggests that human behavior results from the interaction of the mental states and the instantaneous condition and it is the reason the boys turn down Ralph as their leader and opt to follow Jack. The will to power, as portrayed by Jack, is not as a result of goodwill but the jealousy and greed as it is in the actual life situation. It is his feelings, thoughts, beliefs, goals and intentions that influence him to undertake various actions and behavioral conduct that manifests and portrays his will to overthrow Ralph. His intentions at the first instant are not to rescue the boys as it was Ralphs but to be the leader. The group thinking does not isolate the leader's motives but follows the
leader who seems appropriate and who has power that is an aspect of social psychology reflecting on the people's interactions The other issue that the film puts across in relation to the social psychology and group experience is the rationality and emotional reactions among the human beings. Human being have been identified and characterized as rational creatures; in that they do things for a reason. Time, situation and the state of things are the determinants of the adoption of moral and immorality in the society. Experiences and the prevailing behavioral conduct specify the continuity and manifestation of either moral actions or immoral actions. The film portrays how the relationship between the individuals and groups can be attributed to conformity and deviance. It also captures the attributes of the psychological fear as the boys find a corpse of a pilot and mistakes it for a beast.
