In the film The Giver they live in a world where they are not allowed to lie, not allowed to swear or say mean words, and they are not even able to see in color. These things are taken away from citizens to avoid any sort of conflict or war. Out of all of these things, color is the most evident. The filmmakers made a stylistic choice to film the majority of the film in black and white. This composition takes away all the fun vibrant sides of life in replacement for no conflict and no individuality. The government takes away all of these things from the citizens and the citizens are not allowed to be uniquely them. Many parallels can be drawn between that society and today’s. With the growing popularity of social media, everyone now has a platform in which they can voice their opinions. If those opinions don't match up with whoever reads the comment, the writer of that comment can get dragged with hate. It is easy for one to find himself in a position where they can't share their own opinion in fear of being attacked by others.
In conclusion, today’s society might not have developed into the world of Brave New World or The Giver, but it is sure on it’s way. There are many parallels that can be drawn between those societies and today’s. If the leaders of today’s world are not careful, society can easily fall down that
