2017 is turning into a fictional novel. Thought things in a literary classic could never come real? Think again. Brave New World is a novel that was written back in 1932 by the writer of Aldous Huxley, and it’s now turning out to be very close to our modern society. Georgie Veitch investigates.
Brave New World written by writer Aldous Huxley, is relevant and is still read to this day because it is a classic novel that exemplifies dystopian life, which can be reflected of in modern times. This is from many things, but more specifically, genetic engineering, which has recently become a hot topic. Aldous Huxley created the world in which human embryos are produced on an assembly line every …show more content…
living human was made in an assembly line, or as we know, it genetic engineering. The main protagonist known as John the Savage because he was not made by genetically engineering and contradicts the values and rules imposed by the suppressive society, in which he lives in. A piece of an apparently perfect puzzle
However, this novel is not the only classic work of literature that promotes these themes, there have also been many dystopian novels that have shown the way of genetic engineering some of which 1984 are and the time machine which come from an arranged sort of fiction books and novels, about genetic engineering.
Brave New World has questions, provokes and shocks reader which therefore makes it a classic that will impacts our generation, and generation to come. The book challenges contemporary social values and expectations and did the same in the era it was written.
The novel was written in the year of 1932 by Aldous Huxley, his book became such a hit because of the dystopian life and how the book has such a mystical relevance to it and how he believes the world well be at the time of the 21st century, is he right? It is the year 2017 and we are starting to see themes from in that book with one of them being genetical engineering. In this day and age, people are starting to use genetic engineering in a way to prevent their children from having diseases or deformities which is, I guess a good thing because it is proving from diseases but people may be misusing them to create a dream baby, with the desired gender and colour of eye and hair and the list goes on! Throughout, this book it has been a warning of many themes coming to life such as genetic engineering and we are opening our eyes to distinguish the similarities between the novel …show more content…
and our own lives
Quotes from scientists, results from studies, anecdotes from parents who screened for mutations in genes of their babies, abortion rates of babies with cerebral palsy or down syndrome???
Throughout, it has shown that it is still relevant to our current society, in ways we would not have thought of. When reading this book the reader realises the impertinent role, that science and technology current social and moral values. Yes it may be true we do not live in a suffocating institution that in the novel but it really is not far from it so we have to think is Huxley’s dystopia life true?
“Genetic engineering the deliberate modification of the characteristics of an organism by manipulating its genetic material” this is what today's definition says about genetic engineering is this what Huxley was trying to elaborate in this book I say yes and it is because genetical engineering is becoming a more normal thing these days with more and more people believing it is the best way to get their dream baby. But, should we be worried about this? Of course, in our lives going to become like the book should we start to say “oh brave new world” like john from the book. Should we become like john from the book afraid of the way they live.
“Oh Brave New World.”
The Bokanovsky Process, involves the startling process of splitting human cells, to control the government’s desire of an even social system. The website, entitled Brave New World, “In the highly-controlled social world, the ability for the government to control the number of humans is important, as is the ability to control the function of those humans.” This process also enables the government to create several subclasses.
Throughout, the book we are meet by a man by the name of John or the “savage” to the genetical engineering people.
He is a big piece of proof against the concept of genetical engineering because he is not one and he does not understand to reason for it. And due to this, it leads to john taking his life because he believes he does not conform to society and its expectations. Huxley has done an exceptional work in the way of writing and his style one of this main styles of writing is Shakespearean because he has such a profound influence in the book, and because of all Huxley has done to make this book it is the reason why it is still a classic to this day and why it will still be when it does hit the year this book was set
it.
Overall Brave New World has shown and given a thorough view about dystopian ideologies, and how it links to as such to today society and apply to genetic engineering. Such as we do not want to believe it, unfortunately, Brave new world does link explicitly to Genetic engineering and will only more relevant in the future. To come back to this world away from the dystopian one, this book has shown that it questions, provokes and shocks the reader and therefore does make it a classic that will impact the 21st century.
