Early American Writing In the age of Enlightenment and puritan tradition their religion and beliefs helped America shape its self in the sense of literature we have today in every aspect such as political, social, and a cultural sense. The Puritans had a huge effect upon the American culture. In a political, social, and cultural force. Puritanism lasted until the early 1700s. In the text it says that religion was the most influential cultural force on the writers of this period. Puritan values and beliefs directed people’s everyday lives as well as the formation of American society. Puritans beliefs taught Americans how important religion was to have and that you can’t succeed in life without religion. The Puritans felt like they were chosen by God to create a new order in America. Puritans used many things to show Americans how important religion was to have. Through American literature puritans changed history. Furthermore, they placed importance by playing a role in the value of education by founding the first American college. Puritans felt that with every town, but there must be a school. In the text, it said The Puritans felt like the Government was a problem and that they were affecting all the work they were getting started. Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Paine, Thomas Jefferson shaped the American Enlightenment and began to eclipse even the most brilliant European way. Those high figures in our history today liked how The Puritans wanted a better life in America. Culturally the Puritans made a huge effect on America. The puritans felt like they were chosen to spread the word of God.

    They thought that economic and political things and religious disagreements were causing a decline in English society. John Winthrop, traveling with some Puritans, said that they should make a society in which the high end, wealthier people and the needier depended on each other and all could benefit from helping each other out in life.
