Ottoman Empire Essay - What Factors Led to Changes in the Ottoman Society? The Ottoman Empire started in the thirteenth century in 1299. Lasting for more than 600 years, it is considered one of the most long-lasting empires ever in history. Before the Empire was officially established, the Turks were originally nomads, migrating about from place to place following a traditional route seeking for food and shelter. The Empire was then established, and the Ottoman Empire was named after Otman (Osman Ghazi). They hired men known as "mercenaries" to battle the Mongols which was led by Khan. Osman's empire expanded quickly and significantly throughout the world, because of the ghazis. The term ghazi means a brave warrior. These people are willing to give their full strength expanding the great empire. This has led to the empire conquer southeast Europe, western Asia, and north Africa, however the expansion came to a halt for a while. It is considered that in Islam, it is wrong to conquer Islamic lands and fight Muslims, so the Ottomans have decided to migrate to Christain lands. One of these Christian lands, also one of the greatest empires in history was the Byzantine. The Ottomans succesfully conquered it, and this was the start of a great Ottoman Empire.

There were many factors that led to changes in the Ottoman Empire. One of these changes was the wealth and the expansion of the Ottoman Empire. There were men who were hired as mercenaries at first to fight the Mongols, however there was not enough land conquered. They were then hired as the gases who conquered a wealthy empire called the Byzantine Empire. This has totally changed the Ottoman's lifestyle, because more lands were conquered, and the empire was getting rich over time. Had they not been hired as ghazis, the Ottomans would not last for long, and the Byzantine might have conquered the Ottomans.
