The well acclaimed song “We didn’t start the fire”, by Billy Joel has been known for their numerous symbols throughout the music video. Even the lyrics have some connection into what the United States was doing throughout the years. These connections are also known as “Easter eggs”. Throughout the video there are many “Easter eggs”, which resemble some of the occurrences that the Unites States had to face.
ROMANCE MAGAZINE: through this time, romance increased popularity. It was a time when many romance things were found.(movies, books, magazines, etc.)
DORIS DAY: at some point the lady appeared to have the resemblance of a popular singer, movie star Doris Day. Doris began with a band, but later on she made her first movie in 1948.
RADIO: In the music video, the radio appears to malfunction. At that time, the radio company lost many of its viewers, thanks to the popularity of the television, which is why the radio now doesn’t work.
RED CHINA: throughout the music video, there is a glimpse of a red pot that appears to be china material. This clearly symbolized how the Communist tool control of China after the struggle that started before WW2.Later renamed Republic of china or Red China.
JOHNNIE RAY: In a magazine portal, Ray appears. He is known as a partially deaf singer, whose song “cry”, was #1. He rose to fame from 1949 to 1950.
SOUTH PACIFIC: at some point we see a poster of a musical group. It happens to be “South Pacific”, which was a highly popular Broadway musical and a popular movie.
STUDEBAKER: many times throughout the music video, we can see a Studebaker car. Studebaker was a popular car in 1950. They styling consisted of a torpedo front end and read window. Many people thought that the car looked like it was going backwards. In 1966, the company went out of business.
TELEVISION: during this time, the television became popular. In the music video we can observe that back then the

    Singer LaVern Baker and her manager Al Green helped him with his early start and he signed a contract with Okeh the year that song came out. In 1951 he came out with two songs that were produced by Mitch Miller: Cry and The Little White Cloud That Cried. Cry was one one of his biggest hits in that era and proved to be a very popular song much later on too. It reached number one and stayed that way for eleven weeks. He also came out with songs Please, Mr. Sun, and Broken-Hearted. Both of these songs made the top ten in 1952 along with Walkin' My Baby Back Home. By now Johnnie had become very popular and had started getting roles in movies. His first film was an Irving Berlin musical, There's No Business Like Show Business, in 1954. His acting skills were mediocre; he was really there for the singing opportunity. Ray put 25 hits in the top thirty from 1951 to 1957. He kept on singing until his death even though he didn't have any hits after 1957. He sang only for enjoyment and the love of music. He died of liver failure due to alcohol and drug abuse.
