Ebenezer Scrooge In 'A Midsummer Night's Dream'

In the opening scene of the play, we meet Jacob Marley, who is a ghost. He and Scrooge were friends and business partners in life. He introduces us to the greedy, cold-hearted Ebenezer Scrooge. It is Christmas Eve and Scrooge is still working in his counting house. In Scene Two, Scrooge’s nephew Fred, came to the office to invite Ebenezer to Christmas dinner with his family. Scrooge views Christmas as a “humbug” and hastily rejects this offer. Says that he would rather see himself dead than eat dinner with Fred and his family. Fred leaves and two do-gooders enters the office to collect charity for the poor. Scrooge makes it clear that he believes the poor should be in prisons, workhouses, or dead.
