The county has a successful agricultural and manufacturing base holding a top 10 ranking in the state for a number of agricultural categories. The Capital Region International Airport is also located in the southern tier of Clinton County. A Clinton County Economic Alliance has been formed to promote the region as a great place to live and do business. The Clinton County Economic Alliance is a partnership of government and private sector organizations in Clinton County working to further economic growth in the region.

Johns is governed by a mayor and four council members, each of whom is elected to four-year terms. While the City Council sets policy, the day-to-day decision making is conducted by the City Manager. The City Manager is hired by City Council to oversee the various division and department heads. The city employs approximately 49 full-time equivalent employees including about 11 public safety employees. The public safety office is less than two miles away from the subject.
The city provides a full range of municipal services including police and fire protection, residential refuse and recycling collection, water, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, streets, infrastructure development and maintenance, park and recreational facilities, library services and general administrative services. Flint’s Bishop Airport is within an hour drive of St. Johns. Clinton Transit provides bus service to most of Clinton County, including St. Johns. Amtrak provides passenger train service through a station in East Lansing, Michigan. CN North America and CSX Transportation also provide freight rail service throughout most of Michigan and connect to Ohio and
