The History of Ecstasy
Methylenedioxymethamphetamine, commonly referred to as ecstasy or MDMA, is a synthetic drug that primarily performs as a stimulant as well as a hallucinogenic. The desired effects include elevated empathy, feelings of extreme euphoria, and heightened sensations. The effects of taking ecstasy generally occur after 30-45 minutes of taking the drug, and last for about 3-6 hours. ecstasy was officially patented in 1914 (although it was created in 1912), by the German pharmaceutical company Merck. Ecstasy was created in hopes of being an appetite suppressant. In 1959, Merck researchers contemplated the possibility of using ecstasy as a stimulant, which was not its original intended use. It was also rumored that ecstasy was possibly used to keep aviators alert, but there is no actual evidence to back these claims up. Beginning in the 1970’s, ecstasy’s main use was for refining psychotherapy. But, in 1972, ecstasy was discovered in Chicago by police. The use of ecstasy was steadily disseminating, but it persisted in being a rather rare drug. Starting in the early to mid-1980’s, ecstasy became more and more widespread. One of these consequences is that ecstasy can cause loss of focus, and focus is key for education. If by any chance that ecstasy is taken extensively, the user may not be able to recover from the harm that ecstasy caused both the user and their education.
