The first standard I demonstrated was standard one. Standard one is supporting instructional opportunities. I have used my knowledge of basic writing and writing readiness. In Mrs. Hettinger’s class, I assisted a student on his spelling packet. The student had to write the spelling words in alphabetical order. I went through each letter of the alphabet and asked him if there were any words that started with that letter. Some of the words began with the same letter, so we had to look at the letters that came next. The student was able to write all of the spelling words in alphabetical order, he just needed some guidance.
In Mrs. Levan’s class, I walked around and assisted the students with their writing. The first graders went on a field trip on Tuesday and were told to write about what they had learned. I helped a couple of students sound out of words to complete their sentences. I encouraged them to look up at the word wall for any sight words they may be struggling with. Looking at the word wall helped a few of the students out. While I was walking around, I was able to see how the students spell the words just by sound. They did their best trying to spell it correctly by stretching the …show more content…
sounds.
The second standard I demonstrated was standard three.
Standard three is supporting a positive learning environment. I used engaging activities for the students. In Mrs. Meyer’s math SIT group, we played multiplication scoot. I had the three girls come over to my table. The girls had to choose a multiplication task card and then complete the task. They had to write the answer on their paper and then I checked it. If the student had the right answer, then they chose a new task card. If the student had it wrong, then I explained to them how to solve the problem. The students were able to get the correct answers on the second try. The multiplication scoot allowed the students to solve multiplication problems in multiple ways and fun at the same
time.
I was able to assist Mrs. Soots with her students. Mrs. Soots is a Special Education teacher and mostly works with the second graders. Mrs. Soots had her students come in the library and take their AR tests. Some of the students are unable to read the test themselves, so Mrs. Soots asked me if I could read the test to them. I read the multiple choice to one student. She was able to answer the questions once I read them to her. I had never read an AR test to a student before, but I enjoyed getting to experience it. Even though the test was made for visual learners, we adapted it for the auditory learners as well.
