Similarities between The Tell-Tale Heart and The Black Cat by Edgar Allen Poe
Edgar Allen Poe was a famous author of many different poems and stories. Throughout his life he experienced a lot of pain from loosing many of the woman he loved in life and from being disowned by his adoptive father. In his stories and poems you can notice his emotions sometimes show such as when they're depressing and/or over a woman. A lot of his stories have another similar to it in theme, character, or emotions. An example of that is his two stories The Black Cat and The Tell Tale Heart. The first similarity I noticed in these two stories were the first person narratives. Both stories show you the thoughts of the narrator and the way they understand or make sense of what they are doing or something that had happened. The main characters are both insane and try to convince us that they are not. In the Tell Tale Heart you can see he is insane by his obsession with the old mans “vulture eye”. The old mans eye,was in his mind, evil and the only reason the old man had to die. Another example of his insanity was him being worried about the neighbors hearing the old mans heartbeat that was actually his own. He also believes he can hear heaven and hell which is impossible. In The Black Cat the narrator begins to abuse his wife and pets, the ones “he loved so much” and later believes the cat is haunting him. He is also very unclear for example he says there is a second cat but that cat just happens to look just like the first did. Another similarity in the stories is how the narrators got caught and their actions after they killed. In the Tell Tale Heart the narrator after killing the old man he tries to convince us he is sane because of what he did to hide the body. He feels at first when the police come confident that he had nothing to fear. After they searched the house he brings them to
