“Call Me Maybe”, “We are Never Getting Back Together”, “Lights” and “Moves Like
Jagger” are just some of the songs played on the “one sweet night” of October 13, 2012.
Homecoming’s theme this year was “One Sweet Night”, which was prominently displayed by the huge cupcakes, lollipops and wrapped pieces of “candy” at homecoming. Main hall was also decorated, in the spirit of homecoming, the week before. There was ribbon, big pieces of
“candy” and a giant Candy Land board game on the walls. To add to the spirit, homecoming committee had joined up with spiritual life three weeks before homecoming to sell candy grams to students.
Lakeland’s cafeteria was transformed into a magical candy kingdom for one night.
Tickets, or bids, for this dance were twentyfive dollars for a single and fifty dollars for a couple. These tickets had to be bought the week before homecoming. The bid had candy illustrated on it, inviting the recipient to the dance and had a huge lollipop for one’s own enjoyment. On homecoming court this year was Rachel Santo, Laura Kness, Kim Lentz, Maggie
Bosu and Lisa Cirino. All of these girls had to give speeches the Thursday before homecoming, in order for sophomores, juniors and seniors to vote. Each girl spoke very well and with their own style. For example, one speech ended with, “...And PLEASE remember to wear your seatbelts.”
Later in the day, the school had a pep rally to choose homecoming king. The court for king included Jake Courtot, Mike Capel, Norman Kotoch, Miguel Olivera and Pat Cosgrove.
The boys sang, ‘Bernied”, danced, ran, tested their candy knowledge and told sentimental stories with the piano. The king for Homecoming 2012, determined by applause from the crowd, was Pat Cosgrove. The next day at the football game, the Homecoming Queen was
announced. Laura Kness was our Homecoming Queen.
The night of October 13th was pretty rainy and dark, but it stopped raining just long enough for groups
