THREE INSTITUTIONS WITH ONE GOAL IN MIND

From parent pressure to cost, to characteristics or student organizations offered, the college choice process can have multiple influences and can cause dilemmas for students (Renn and Reason, 2012). Since there are various types of institutions, ranging from private to public, residential to commuter and many other characteristics, students must decide on which school best meet their needs. Banning and Strange would argue that students will gravitate toward an environment where they feel included, safe, involved as well as allow them opportunities to have interactions that are both positive and productive to the academic success (2001).
This paper will give a brief overview and analysis on the history, mission, student demographics, and tuition costs at three institutions: Madonna University, University of
Michigan Dearborn, and Henry Ford College. In addition, it will analyze some similarities each institution possess as well as highlight some differences among their campus environments, using Banning and Kaiser’s campus ecology theory as a framework. Renn and Reason (2012) referenced the campus ecology theory, where they noted this framework measured four goals when analyzing colleges and universities: inclusion, safety, involvement and community building. This paper will only focus on one of those goals, inclusion, and the programs each institution offers to students to promote student success.
Madonna University is a private, not-for-profit institution where its main campus is located in Livonia, Michigan and was

During the college years of a person’s life, some of the biggest and life changing decisions are made. The decision of choosing a college, picking a major, and then the pursuit of a career affect the rest of an individual’s life. College students often receive a great deal of advice, from many different people, concerning their career. There are many people that give the advice, “Do what you love,” while, in contrast, other people will give the advice, “Do what makes money.” These two pieces of advice are very conflicting and it brings up the argument - should you do what you love or what makes the money? There are many reasons to attend college, for many of us we are pushed by our parents to acquire the highest level of education, possibly an education they haven't acquired themselves. We are taught at an early age that education is the "only" way to achieve success. I think that is no way to push a person to go to school. I believe we all have a choice to choice what we want to do, and not be lied to by our parents, nor society to become who ever we are meant to be, whatever path we may take, may it be through an educational institution or through other means we all have reasons to attend "college".…

Many students consider money an issue when choosing a college. Education should be the major focus, however many have to settle for what they can afford. In often cases this will sway one’s decision towards community college, state college or prestigious University. These circumstances may not be the best answer, because this can have a negative impact on their performance on their studies. Although many consider funding a major reason in the decision, financial aid or student loans may only be temporary fixes.…
