Education in the 21st Century
When the word education is mentioned, the first thing that will pop out of our minds is what we know as school — the way it has always been, but we have to make a fundamental change to 21st century education. So, what is 21st century education? What do you think about it? What importance does it gives to the young? Does it help the young generation to prepare themselves for the changes of the world?
21st century education addresses a rapidly changing world filled with fantastic new problems as well as exciting new possibilities. As we see it right now, it’s ushered in by a dramatic technological revolution — an uprising of technologies — which creates a great impact towards education. We, ourselves have no idea of what the world will look like 10 years from now, that’s why students must be prepared for life in that world. We are facing a lot of emerging issues such as global warming, famine, poverty, health issues, a global population explosion and other environmental and social issues. These issues lead to a need for students to be able to communicate, function and create change personally, social, economically and politically on local, national and global levels. Youth has great importance towards this century that’s why they must be prepared for the upcoming future — by improving each one’s skills so that they can use it for the betterment of our society.
Emerging technologies and resulting globalization also provides unlimited possibilities for exciting new discoveries and developments. Today’s students are digital learners, as what they call it — they literally take in the world through the filter of computing devices: the cellular phones, handheld gaming devices, laptops, computers, TVs, etc. Exposing the young to the changing world of ours is not that hard for them now.
