The objective of education and training is to make the country economically competitive and prosperous. I have seen through the years that most individuals don’t think of their career on the broad scale of making the United States an economic superpower; individuals tend to focus on their immediate needs and families. Yet educational institutes have a broad focus, allowing us several education and training options, although geographic area, career objective, and personal resources can obviously put limits on our individual choices.
The objective is to provide the kind of education and training best suited to individual?
Ideally, a person would have their career goals well-defined before they invest their time and money into education or training beyond high school. In reality, however, many people choose their education or training provider without a real career goal in mind, or the goals simply change along the way. Since college can be a great opportunity to explore lots of career choices, this is not such a bad way for some people to get started. Of course, let’s hope that their career goals will materialize before they graduate and find themselves job hunting in a field that doesn’t match their skills or interests. Then there are others who do it by-the-book and set their sights on a career goal beforehand and then select their school or training program accordingly.
