Edward Burtynsky Railcuts Analysis

My favourite photograph in the exhibit is the piece ‘Railcuts’ taken by Edward Burtynsky. The photograph consists of railroad tracks on a mountain ledge positioned at the center of the image. Particularly what makes this piece outstanding is the illusion that manifests from it. Burtynsky creates a thought provoking image by challenging our perception. The mountain side appears to have a slit on it causing it to seem as though it has been severely punctured. However, the reality is that the cut is railroad tracks.
As the focus of the day revolved around climate change and human involvement, the photograph displayed a cunning attempt on alerting the viewer of the negative human contributions that currently affects our planet. Considering that
