THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND
This chapter involves the introduction, the statement of the problem, objectives of the study, significance of the study, and scope and delimitation of the study.
Introduction This research purports to show the effectiveness of tutorial classes in students’ achievements in General Science, develop students’ study strategies, and apply different tutoring techniques help the tutoring sessions effective. The main role of a teacher is to promote quality learning among the students. This is possible only when you act as a giver and student actively participate in the process of learning. During the teaching – learning process, you have to locate the areas where the learners commit mistakes. It is crucial of the teaching – learning process where you have to diagnose and prepare instructional materials for tutorial classes to ensure the desired quality of learning. At this stage, the role of a teacher is just like a doctor. The doctor takes all the steps necessary to diagnose the disease by performing different tests and then prescribes medicines for the particular disease. In the case of education, the process of giving a diagnostic test is the step and the tutorial classes are the prescriptions. Hence, diagnostic teaching and tutorial classes are very essential for ensuring effective learning and in improving the quality of education. Pupils under tutorial classes usually have one or more than one of the following learning difficulties: poor memory, student attention span and are easily distracted by other things, relatively poor comprehensive power, lack of learning motivation, lack of self-confidence and relatively low self-expectation, weak in problem-solving power, fail to grasp information effectively and mix things up easily, have difficulty in understanding new or abstract concepts, fail to transfer to the related teaching areas appropriately and need more time to complete assignments or tasks.
