Throughout our studies on both psychology and its effects on human behavior, we have specified our investigation to “the effects of music on human memory”. The independent variable held within the experiment incorporates simply differing the types of music being played during the limited time-duration provided for test-subjects; orderly to memorise the provided material. In contrast as to the variety in music, we also agreed on a range of controlled-variables or more simply put, processes that must be kept and performed, in the same manner for each trial throughout conducting the experiment. These variables include controlling the instructions provided for subjects; the quantity of words expected to be …show more content…
As the experiments will be held in our classroom, the students will be seated with tables setup in multiple horizontal rows with a slight inward-curve at each end of each row, surrounding the screen of which words will be projected onto for students to recall later on. Upon all subjects seated on assigned table seats, one of the conductors of the experiment will explain and clarify to the test subjects the instructions/process for the test, whilst another conductor will take on the roll of giving out and collecting papers and pencils for each subject to write down the displayed words onto. The multiple words that subjects must later on recall to their best capability will be displayed on the projector screen with each word being displayed by itself for a constant and short time duration of approximately 3-5seconds. This process will be performed with 3 trails all identically conducted although trials 2-3 will be conducted with background music, played during the word displays. The music being played for the last 2 trials will differ as trial 2 will contain rather soft and gentle music whilst trial 3 will contain rather intense or loud music as background audio. The experiment will contain 3 trials in order to see define the relationship of music to memory as well as its …show more content…
5) After all subjects have received both a piece of paper and a pencil, a presentation with each word on each slide will be displayed on the screen in front(simultaneously with the music being played through the speakers next to the screen for trials 1-2)
6) When all the words has been projected on to the screen, the music will be stopped and the conductor will announce for the subjects to start writing down as many words as they can recall until the given time duration of approximately 30-60 seconds is over to which the conductors will announce that all writing utensils must be put down on the table.
7) Another conductor will come and take each piece of paper from the subjects and replace with a new piece of paper in order for the students to write down the words for the second experiment. The papers will be replaced in order to create space and avoid risks of subjects to continue writing on the papers.
8) Steps (1) through (7) will be repeated 2 more times but each with different
