Flint Knife The flint knife was produced in Egypt in about 3450 B.C. The blade of the knife is made of finely grained yellowish flint. To create the blade, the ancient Egyptians had to rough the stone, then trim the edge of the blade to make it smooth, polish both sides of the blade, and then produce the sharpness of the blade. The flint knife was a tool for cutting purposes. It was used to cut papyrus in strips so that the Egyptians could make paper and it was also used in religious ceremonies such as mummification. The flint knife was sometimes also used as a weapon. It was also used as a tool in everyday Egyptian life such as cutting rope and animal skin.
