INTRODUCTION
Mumbai is India’s main center of urban economic growth and one of the largest and most crowded metropolitan areas of the world. Mumbai is a complex urban environment characterized by diverse economic development, high population density, extensive unauthorized settlement and very high land costs. Greater Mumbai is experiencing rapid population growth, much of which is in unplanned, informal settlements. Mumbai Urban Transport Project (MUTP) has designed this project with a major effort to unlock Mumbai’s transport bottleneck.
The Santacruz Chembur Link Road (SCLR) is one of the primary east – west link roads being built under the Mumbai Urban Transport Project (MUTP) to strengthen the road connectivity between Eastern Express Highway (EEH) and Western Express Highway (WEH). Commissioned by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation Limited (MSRDC) and Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) linking western and eastern suburbs. The Santacruz Chembur Link Road (SCLR), with a total length of about 6.45 kms, is a critical link in improving connectivity in for the movement of people from east to west and vice-versa .The project is planned for improvement of road traffic system in the city of Mumbai and its suburbs. The road also include the city’s first double-deck bridge to disperse traffic smoothly at Kurla and at Chembur. The link road will also ease traffic at the busy Sion junction-Priyadarshni Circle belt and the T-junction near Bandra-Kurla Complex.
