Dr Eizayaga, an Argentinean homeopath, developed a method to treat chronic cases (Watson 2004). He believed that patients have separate levels of disease, which need separate prescriptions.
In most chronic cases, there will have been long-term use of drugs to suppress the specific pathology and symptoms (Kramer 2006). This means that the true picture of the disease may be obscured and toxicity in the system could also be causing side effects. This can affect key organs in the body, such as the liver and kidneys and this can block the effectiveness of indicated remedies.
In chronic cases, with advanced pathologies, that have been complicated with drugs, or complicated cases with a mixture of aetiologies, the layers method can be used to make sense of the case (Watson 2004). Separating out the layers can make it easier to see what area of the case to aim the remedy at.
Eizayaga tells us that we should find a simillimum for the local disease symptoms and follow up with a series of remedies to treat the underlying pre-disposing state (Taylor 2007). The remedies that will be needed cannot be foreseen at the beginning, and after each prescription, the case will need to be re-taken.
Although there may be hints of the deeper layers e.g. the fundamental layer, the miasms and the constitutional layer, at the start of the case, Eizayaga believed that we can’t always see through the lesional layer (pathological disease) to the fundamental totality remedy. As we treat each layer, we see a clearer view of the imbalance that exists to the vital force. In this, Eizayaga doesn’t differ from Hahnemann.
Where they do differ, is that Eizayaga differentiated between the treatment of the patient and that of the disease (Schutt 2010). The disease must be treated separately, as he believed that the local pathology is a separate entity. He believed that the patient’s recent pathological symptoms don’t usually
