An example for a classic movie would be Titanic, not only does it feature a very tragic event but it added a bit of imagination and drama to it. One of Dr. Jose Rizal’s most prominent works, the El Filibusterismo can definitely be considered as a classic; but since the novel is in Tagalog (most versions today) those who do not speak the language cannot appreciate it. Thus the question arises, is language actually a factor when classifying a certain art as a classic.
Although current art descended from another art, this doesn’t subject the artist to blindly follow the previous generation’s style. The artist must be flexible and be able to adapt to the generation’s needs. What was wanted then may not be wanted now, or at least not a copy of the exact same thing.
As long as culture and taste changes, art will adapt to that change. In fact the beauty of art is it can be renewed, an art will never be considered useless for it can always be remade to suit the desire of the current audience. Renditions may be created, sequels may be created but there will always be the “original” and that is the classic from which the present art has descended
