Elaria Monologue
Each year, during the fiercest storms and blizzards, a young girl is sent from Elaria into the depths of the forest. Why, you may ask,? She is offered to the almighty goddess, Seraphina, in hopes of appeasing her. She alone holds the power to control life and death. Therefore, the villagers believe she controls the relentless winters and can protect them from succumbing to the icy grasp of death.

I always knew that the winters of Elaria were cruel, but I never knew it would become this merciless. Although everyone in the town knew that winter would inevitably arrive, none were truly prepared. Everyone suffered in silence, hiding away in the corners, slowly rotting away in this hellhole. That was the last thing I could remember, other than my mother’s wail as I was thrown out of the gates of the terrific Elaria. Am I really on my own now? Was I really a measly offering to the oh-so great Seraphina? The snow engulfed my feet, burying them deep below, while the wind howled and threatened to knock me over. I squinted my eyes as I attempted to shield myself from the snow. I start feeling frightened and the fact that I am a sacrifice catches up to me. All I could hear was the constant howling of the wind paired with the eerie sounds of the forest when suddenly I heard cries “Who goes there?” I could barely make out a whisper as I shivered. I slowly make my way deeper into the maze, warily watching my surroundings. My teeth clatter against each other while my limbs start turning blue-ish grey. I jolt as I hear the bloodcurdling scream once again. I start fearing for the worse, was it perhaps Seraphina herself? I turn the corner nervously to find a vile
