Developing and maintaining a high performances organization in today society can be challenge, organizations must have responsiveness, speed, and quality that is beyond the reach of individual performance. When the organization has a high performances teams generate commitment and provide the elements that inspire employees to give their very best. need to ensure that they are using an organizational elements that matches today 's demanding business environment. Through the two organizations that we discuss are; UC San Diego and the hospital, both of these organizations are high performance organizations. Identify the elements of a high performance team and a learning organization.
Development – methods that leaders can take to ensure their team has a strong foundation from which their goals, direction, and subject matter experts can achieve their mission
Dynamics – process by which the fluid team relationships drive success and self-regulate to ensure success—this is an evolving method of team building and reinforcement
Decision making – building consensus amongst varying team members towards the mission without compromising relationships and focused on achievement
John Schermerhorn and James Hunt, in their discussion of Teamwork and Team Performance, describe high performance teams as those whose individual members hold a shared understanding of team goals, are internally motivated and individually accountable, and have a general sense of purpose (Schermerhorn, Chapter 8, pg. 180). Teams which perform the most efficiently and functionally for an organization are not formed through a rigid set of requirements but, rather, they are organically organized through a conscious effort of an organization, management team and active participation of the members.
