Coast Guard Leadership Philosophy Examples
When analyzing and discussing the Coast Guard's leadership framework, we may often think of senior members or supervisors as leaders. And in many cases, they are. But, it's also important to recognize that longevity or position is not a qualifier to become a leader. From personal experiences, we all can agree that leaders are encountered at each level of our organization and their contributions are no less important than those at the top. I believe these leaders provide encouragement to their shipmates, align people with common goals, and effect positive change. Motivational speaker Drew Dudley speaks to the concept of "everyday leadership". He argues in many cases "we have made leadership into something bigger than us" and have redefined …show more content…
Without question, our families should be first and foremost in our lives. Our primary concern should be for their happiness and well-being. Knowing our families are safe and secure will enable us to focus on the task at hand when we must be away from them. We must understand our work environment is highly complex and all will not go as planned. Anticipating change and maintaining flexibility in our professional environment will enable us to quickly adapt to changes and maintain mission effectiveness. Teamwork is essential to existing together and completing assigned tasks. Utilizing a team approach, we can smartly plan for strengths and weaknesses and ensure objectives are met. It has been shown that working together correlates to unit success and puts even the most difficult objectives within reach. Finally, we shall endeavor to develop new skills on behalf of our organization and routinely seek out additional opportunities for growth. Personal and professional growth are critical to the continuing success of our organization. I encourage all members to identify and share their own personal values. By doing so, it will enable us to better understand and serve each
