Western-cultures, especially that of U.S. culture is often heavily influenced by pop culture and mass media. Forms of media are often looked to shape our views and perceptions of how things should ‘normally’ go. This can be defined as our ‘cultural script’ on pregnancy and birth, with a cultural script being: “modes of behavior and understanding that are not universal or natural” (Conley, 2015, p. 83).
