1 Kings 19:16b “And Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abel Meholah you shall anoint as prophet in your place”. As Elijah continued to follow the instructions of the Lord, it was Elisha who served at Elijah side and witnessed as he served the Lord. Elisha was the faithful disciple of Elijah, and knew he would be his successor even though other prophets told Elisha that Elijah was headed to be with the Lord, Elisha knew that in order to receive the anointing of Elijah, even to the point of asking for a double portion of that anointing.

He had followed his master wherever he went from the moment they met. He knew then that he was to carry on the great work of Elijah and spread the knowledge of God, to bring relief and blessing to his people, and teach them to be kind and charitable.2 Shortly after it was Elisha who would take the instructions of the Lord like his spiritual father. Elijah showed that his life was worth emulating for years not just for the sake of Elisha but for all the prophets in the land of Isreal so much so, that when Elisha crossed back over to the Jordan wearing the mantle of Elijah, the prophets received Elisha immediately.
This same power is the power of God in us, which we as disciple makers should inquire of the
Lord our instructions and emulate Ephesians 1:17 “That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the
Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him”.
That not only those who see us may follow the wisdom of God, but that those who follow them will receive such instructions and begin their own relationship as spiritual parents and children.
