Even though their mating season primarily occurs every year in spring time, they typically produces only one calf. Some things that make vaquita unusual and appealing are its very definite features and unfortunately the fact that their habitat is limited to the Gulf of…

One major problem we are facing as a country is the rapid decline in several different species of fish in the ocean. Some specialist have actually looked into this to determine the cause for the decline in fish in the ocean. One of the major causes is that some species of fish are being fished more than others. It is even stated that more fish than the species are being able to actually reproduce. This alone could eventually lead some of the species into extinction. This is definitely something that can be controlled by humans. Typically, fishing period could stop any and all declines however that is not going to happen. Fishing is harder on the ocean environment then toxic pollution or degraded water quality. As human the only thing we can do if we aren’t going to stop fishing is stop targeting the same fish species to prevent extinction. We need to want to keep the environments balanced and as the primary cause of the decline fish stock in the ocean.…

The rabbit bandicoot also known as the Biliby is endangered, and has been for eight years. It has been vulnerable to the environment for three years. They are endangered because feral cats and other larger animals hunt them. Also, there is competition between other animals for food. Another reason why they are endangered is because of land clearing and livestock grazing habits the grasslands are disappearing, which is where the Bilibies live. It is important to save these animals because they used to be a very important source of food for native people before they became endangered around the year 1950. Now the Biliby has become a symbol of Australia’s efforts to save its native species. Biliby’s are small they are about 9 to 10 inches long.…

Fishing industries provide multiple job opportunities, the fishing industries have a large variety of jobs from fishing to tinning. New skills are earned from working at a fishing industry, also providing experiences to write in their resume (Connect Us Fund 1). Industrial fishing companies have provided wider access to cheap seafood, then increasing the amount of people that want to include fish in their diets (Slow Food 43). Since seafood serves as a primary source of protein, it is commonly healthier and has more nutritional benefits than other…

Shark culling and shark hunts, as an acceptable government response to beach safety, have been up for consideration. The Western Australia Government’s decision to spend $2 million dollars “to track, catch and, if necessary, destroy” sharks in preemptive shark hunts that would cull sharks from local waters has come under scrutiny. The Herald Sun reported on a new poll on the West Australian website that found that 82% of respondents opposed the new plan and only 13% supported it.…

You can find manatees in the coastal waters, freshwater inlets, and river mouths in the Western Atlantic all the way from Florida to Brazil. Manatees are very attracted to the warm waters of Florida, which provide them wintering refuge. Sadly, manatees will accidently mistake the warm water outflow from power plants for the warm water springs they call home. Many cases have been reported of a manatee getting stuck in these outflows.…

Many species today are impacted by threats from changing environments. These threats can pose a great amount of harm to a specific species, which in turn, can ultimately cause it to be endangered. A species is considered endangered when a threat is relatively high and a population is rapidly declining in size. One of the most effective ways to identify an endangered species is through acknowledging habitat loss, introduced species, pollution, and overconsumption. This paper will investigate two endangered species, the Arizona agave plant endemic of Arizona, and the Mexican Wolf (Lobo) of the Southwest.…

Did you know that vending machines are bigger killer than sharks? And that 10 people are killed by sharks worldwide every year? Yet we continue to kill 10 million sharks every year. Shark culling was implemented in WA in 2013 to protect swimmers, with great whites being targeted, although 50 species of sharks including great whites, are listed as vulnerable, endangered or critically endangered. The system isn’t cheap either with the government paying fisherman $610 000 for 107 days of the catch and kill program. This figure is not including the costs of drumlines and other programs helping the mitigation. We know that the ocean is the shark’s territory and people should need to make the decision whether to take the risk when entering the water. To elucidate my argument, I will explain in three different parts, the damage that it can cause on the ecosystem, the government are contradicting themselves by killing endangered species and that many other things are killing people at a faster rate.…

One being to create more marine protected areas, the point of this is that if there are more no catch zones it would allow the fishes, and the surrounding ecosystems to recover. Another option is to stop trawling. Trawling is a fishing technique that drags huge nets through the ocean that scoop up every animal and the ecosystem in its path. The sad result of this is a massive wasteful bycatch, one where dead fish are returned to the sea because they weren’t the targeted fish. It is unnecessary for us to waste see life like this and by outlawing Trawling it would help.…
