English 110 Reflection
Completing english 110 again is somewhat difficult, the last time that I sat in a class room learning how to write the perfect essay was 2000. I did not realize all the material that I had forgotten in that sixteen year period. I am happy that I enrolled in English 110, it did help improve my writing. I know my writing was weak initially, it has improved with this class but there is still along way to go for me to become a better writer, like my dad use to say “there is always room for improvement.” I did learn the proper structure for the narrative, descriptive and compare and contrast essays, along with developing a good thesis for those essays. One area that I saw improve, was the “verbs to avoid.” I did not realize how often I used

After taking English 1101 in the fall, I was confident in my writing. However, after receiving peer reviews and comments from my professor, I found that my writing was far from perfect. The essay assignments in English 1102 were those that consisted of analysis, something I was not familiar with. When I used sources from the short story I was analyzing in my first draft, I did not provide enough evidence on how my sources related back to my thesis. However, with the help of the peer reviews I received, I was able to edit my essay and use my sources in a way that made my argument stronger. Below are different stages of my analysis on the short story "Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been," by Joyce…

I have learned many things while attended English 1101. I have learned that I can improve in writing, which I never thought possible. Although I still need a lot of work I feel I have improved. I never wrote essays in high school because I switched schools all the time. I used to completely hate writing essays, but now depending on the type of essay I actually enjoy it.…

English 1101 was not like I expected. I came into the class thinking this was going to the hardest class I have ever taken. Turns out that the class was one of the easiest subjects I have taken this semester. There were only a few essays that had to be written which was good and bad thing at the same time. My grade was pleasing considering the fact that I am only a sophomore in high school. The class will be every beneficial in the future; when it is all over I will appreciate taking the course. While the structure of the class was not put together well, the English 1101 class turned out to be manageable.…

The portfolio presented before you is an overall example of why I should be allowed to be in the English 110 class. I know I have never been a student who has the skills to say that I can always pass an English class. Although, I feel this portfolio revisions of my first five essays will show you just how far I have come since I have partaken in the English 109-G class with Dr. Stutts. The essays I revised include the Description Essay, Narrative Essay, Argument Essay, Summary & Interpretation Essay, and Literary Analysis Essay. I know now what is necessary and required for a college level English class to pass and actually learn what is taught.…

When it comes to writing papers, I usually have a difficult time getting started. I sometimes have trouble with certain topics, getting the general concept, and then turning it into a writing that will get my point across. I feel as if I’m not very creative with my words as I should be without sounding so scattered brained and lost. I was a little nervous when entering English 1102, after having such a difficult time in English 1101 online. At first I did feel at ease but once we got to doing research on a particular food and the articles, I did have some challenging moments. In in the end I did pull my works together and I plan on sharing some of my reflections while taking a look back on a couple of my papers.…

I am fluent in French, but that's not going to do me any good. I can read the handwriting on the wall. Mexicans are prouder of their heritage than Americans are which means English will soon become a dead language. So next week I'm going out to San Diego State and see if I can enroll in just one class for starters - Spanish 101. I'm telling you, if you've got kids get them into Spanish classes…

    Reflection On English 111

English 111 is the first college English class I have taken, but despite that I feel I would be able to bring a lot into this class. First of all, I enjoy writing and reading, so I am enthusiastic about my work. I love to learn, which means reading textbooks is not a problem for me (especially ones on grammar; I own a few of those myself). When I write, I try to be as objective as I can, and although I may have opinions I find that I can easily put those aside to write an unbiased essay. However, when writing a persuasive paper, I am able to fully support the cause I am writing about, whether or not I truly agree with it. Lastly, I am a helpful person and often one who is called on to assist my peers when necessary. I am a quick leaner and take good notes, so helping others is often an easy task for me, but when I cannot be of assistance, I do my best to help them find someone who will help.…

English 101 has been an amazing class and I feel like I have grown more than I expected. I was apprehensive about taking an English class because I have been away from school for almost seventeen years. I have not written an essay since 1996 and I knew many things have changed. I was especially concerned with citations. However, I found myself being able to work though citations with little effort.…

English 101 however, helped me improved the areas in which I was weak in from high school. Before, it was difficult to find the bigger meaning of an article, poem, or any form of writing in general. However, with the help from taking this course I was able to figure out how to add meaning to the essay. I also learned how to add evidence and analysis them better in my body paragraphs as well. It was difficult in the past, but now I gained skills such as outlining, writing rough drafts and the organization needed for a successful essay. I hope in English 102 that I will use my English 101 skills and be even more skilled in my essay writing. I also hope to learn more about adding evidence within the paragraphs and honing in the essay to make it all flow together. Also in English 102 I hope that I will learn to be more confident with my essays. I have talked in a couple of assignments where my confidence makes me question whether or not to add certain analysis into essays which sometimes may have made my grade not as good as it could have been. In English 102, I hope I will not question myself as much and show more confidence. I also wish to eliminate repetition in English 102. I have received many comments that I repeat my analysis a lot and that also cuts of some points of my grade. I need to continue the analysis more rather than just repeat it in a different way. With these two core English classes that I have/will take, I know that my foundation in writing will be…

My current interests include participating in art, specifically sketching and water-color painting. I started taking up interest in art a few years back and I continue to practice to develop my skills and ease into peacefulness. I also spend my time biking around different areas within Jacksonville. It is a time where I get to appreciate my surroundings and experience some exercise. When taking the course AP English Language and Composition, my qualities include being able to analyze text to find meaning and author’s purpose. It’s useful for understanding the text and help me during my exam; furthermore, I am able to write a proper formal essay with the skills I learned from last year. One of my more enriching experiences occurred during my freshman year of high school. For years, I strove for straight A's, and for years I received them. Over time I constructed a mentality, and underlying self-confidence that I would receive an A no matter what. Due to my over-confidence, I was under the impression that I would not have to put forth much effort; however, near the conclusion of the second semester, I had a B in Pre-AP English 9. Despite my last push to earn a 90% in the class with the concluding assignments of the semester, my grade was finalized lower than I had wished for. It felt as if a five pound ball of lead materialized in the pit of my stomach. This experience, at first, devastated me to the fullest extent, and I…

This semester I had to take ENG 101 for the second time, MAT 100 for the third time, and a reading course I had never taken before. It is now almost the end of the semester, and I realize that I have made some major mistakes in my approach to my classes. Even though it is too late to bring up any of my terrible grades, I now know what a fool I have been. I did not think that talking in class, skipping a few assignments, and missing a few classes would ever have such terrible consequences.…
