“America experienced profound changes during the mid-1800’s. New technologies and ideas helped the nation grow, while the Civil War ripped the nation apart (O Captain! My Captain! (Memory)”. During this tumultuous period, two great American writers captured their ideas in poetry. Their poems give us insight into the time period, as well as universal insight about life. Although, polar opposites in personality, Emily Dickinson and Walt Whitman created similar poetry. Dickinson’s “Hope is a Thing with Feathers” and Whitman’s “O Captain! The last writing piece I did was my college essay. It was my final essay in High school which was probably a year ago. My teacher used to always write me comments on the margins of the papers so I can fix them and make them look better. The only type of writing that I could count as writing is texting, I don’t really like to write but texting is much easier for me. The form of writing that I usually like to go with or use when I feel when I feel a creative impulse is the figurative form of writing, because it usually gives my writing an overtone and makes it more interesting. I feel lost every time I sit down to write because I can never figure out a way to start my writing piece. What I like about my writing is my honest, truthful and persuasive way in delivering facts and thoughts of my own and of others. What I see as occasional or recurring problems in my writings is the failure to not use enough adjectives which results in me having to write more than what’s needed; in order for me to explain my thoughts and that causes me to lose my train of thoughts and ideas. I remember a specific writing experience that left me with a failure in the beginning of my junior year at high school. My teacher assigned us to write a persuasive essay regarding a social problem that effected a community, and I decided to go with the Palestine-Israeli conflict. Due to my decision of choosing this touchy and very debatable topic, I had to research a whole lot and learn more about it. This way I can deliver my idea in the best method possible. However, after getting my paper back it said I had an 89% and that made me feel disappointed in myself.…
