In what ways are humans impacting their environment? How can humans make sure that future generations are allowed the same standards of living that they enjoy? How can the Maltese Islands make sure that they safeguard their environment for the future?

Environment nowadays is being impacted by lots and lots of human’s absolute carelessness. Nowadays people are not thinking about the future generations and their needs. We’re almost over-extracting resources thus being unsustainable. Over-extracting can also be of a waste as not all of the resource is used and so it won’t stay in tact for a long time.

Fishing, irrigation and the combustion of fuels are few of the many reasons. Fossil fuels won’t last forever therefore we need to act sustainable and use less of them. None of the less, the combustion of fossil fuels is harmful to the environment as it emits a lot of gasses and carbon dioxide which are a cause to pollution and also global warming. Fish is also in danger to become a scarce source. People are overfishing thus lessening the amount of fish in the sea. Sometimes, it’s also not a very good idea to grow fish in a fish farm. In Malta, fish farms are allocated to breed ‘Tuna.’ Somehow or another, this fish is not breeding well thus fish is being lost and lessened. Overfishing can lead to a poor rate of fishing and not to mention, if fishing becomes scarce, one might lose his job. Irrigation and the use of pesticides is one of the main reasons why plants are mainly dying and why soil isn’t rich enough like it was. It changed the quantity and the quality of the soil & also irrigation can cause some water logging or soil salination when water is drawn from the river and distributed over the irrigated are. Therefore, humans have to stay extra careful for what to do & how to do it as it can cause any permanent effect on the future generations. We can make sure maybe we don’t extract fossil fuels as much as we do or extract and estimate for how much is

The sustainability of our environment is crucial in saving the livelihood of the people and the planet. Since we are all interdependent, we will all have to do our part in sustaining our environment for the future. We should always be questioning and doing more about it rather than just talking or ignoring the facts. Most of us do not realize the excessive use of resources we have taken advantage of over the years. Generations past have exploited our planet which has resulted much to the endangered state it is in today. The resources on Earth are finite and they will become extinct whenever the maximum limits are reached. Moreover, not only are we using natural resources to benefit our own needs; after we use them, we often return them back to the earth under worse conditions, in turn progressively threatening the environment.…

“Road salt” is a common term used for some chloride salts, including sodium chloride (NaCl), which are used as de-icing agents on roads. The application of these de-icers on roads and other impervious surfaces in North America during winter months was in practice since the 1960s. The amount of snow fall is so high in these areas that snow and ice management becomes very essential to prevent road accidents, to maintain a continuous flow of traffic and to ensure safe pedestrian travel during winter months. Sodium chloride is the most commonly used de-icing agent (Road salting). Sometimes, it can be used along with some anti-caking agents like sodium hexacyanoferrate (II) or sand and grits. These elements like sodium, chloride, ferrocyanide and other impurities seep into our environment when the snow or ice melts, and poses a threat to water bodies, soil, vegetation and large number of species sustaining on them (Environmental, Health and Economic Impacts of Road Salt). De-icing of the roads is, beyond a doubt, very essential, as it saves lives by preventing accidents, but there are more alternatives other than the use of road salt which I will also explain. This research paper explains how road salt acts as a de-icing agent and what factors promote its widespread use. The primary aim of this paper is to give an elaborate idea about how road salt damages our environment. It also provides a list of some safer alternatives which can be used for de-icing.…

Human being plays a key role in environment as he has a capable mind and will power to do everything by the skill and technology he has developed so far. But most of his activities done for his development and welfare have been causing seriously negative impacts on the virgin environment he has been blessed with. We can prepare a long list of human activities that have been disturbing, destabilising and degrading the natural environment. The explosion of human population has enhanced the negative impacts of human activities on environment. Man has adopted such a life style which has no room for conservation and preservation of environment as he has become just a consumer in the modern world. He has destroyed many terrestrial and aquatic habitats causing numerous species of plants and animals to go extinct. He has cleared forests and has killed numerous wild animals to disturb the balance of the nature. His activities leading to pollution have been causing a number of local and global environmental problems ranging from spread of epidemics, depletion of ozone layer, global warming and climate change. The fertile land degraded by human activities has been converted into vast desert and his activities of misuse and overuse of water and reclamation of water bodies has been leading to the crisis of water in many parts of the world. Most of the fossil fuels have so far been used up by him due to whom an energy crisis is overhead. Most of the human population of urban areas has been migrating towards cities leaving agriculture aside and this is causing urban congestion, encroachment to monuments and government land on one hand the a steep fall of agricultural production on the other. Lots of wastes created by humans have spoilt the landscape and urban areas are under immense stress due to over congestion. Civic bodies in urban areas are under hard pressure to manage civic amenities and improper management of civic facilities is sure to endanger the community life.…
