Environmental Consultation Essay The city of Kabwe is an African city in the country of Zambia. Kabwe is a poor city so they cannot afford the expensive earth friendly renewable resources other areas are able to afford. The air quality is extremely poor in Kabwe because of the old lead mine, the lead can be transferred in the air. The air quality is so bad Kabwe is in the top 15 for the most polluted city in the world coming in at number four. The water quality is not much better than the air quality. The soil is very dry and thin because they only receive rainfall from April until October after that it is the dry season and the soil dries up again. The energy used in Kabwe is mostly natural gas-oriented because of no access to many natural resources needed to produce energy.
Zambia has a lot of unused land that is filled with the savanna biome and wildlife that roams the areas. Kabwe specifically is home to 300,000 people, and is Africa 's most polluted city. The height of Kabwe’s popularity was in the 20th century, when there was a reservoir of lead found that was potentially dangerous to people and animals. During the operation, there were no pollution laws regulating what came out of the mine. Because of this, air, soil, and vegetation were all contaminated, and ultimately, millions of human lives were also affected. The smelting process in Kabwe was unregulated when it was a hotspot for coal mines, so the concentration of lead in the soil and water today is a reminder of the mining era in Kabwe.
The wildlife in Zambia is very unique, you can find hippos, rhinos, elephants, lions and many more different type of animals only found in savannas. One example of a food web in the savanna is the acacia tree, which is a primary producer, which fuels the antelope and the giraffe, who are primary consumers, who in turn fuel the cheetah, which is a secondary consumer.
