Having learnt its lesson from last year, when a record 20,000 malaria cases were reported in the city due to the large-scale presence of breeding sites, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is gearing up to nip the menace in the bud this time around.
According to civic officials, the idea is to appoint voluntary detectors and train them in identifying spots of bother and take requisite action with the help of BMC men. 4997 spots has already been surveyed.
Bmc’s plan is to residents of each housing society, slum colony and chawls to appoint at least 5 members each to work as mosquito breeding detector. Civic boy will specially train them.
Last year Bmc Found breeding spots in sapplings, flower pots, defrosting trays, overhead tanks etc.Insecticide officers complained that some colonies were not supporting their initiative.
Conclusion
4,000 cases of malaria and 3 deaths were reported in the city in April last year. Government has taken this initiative for the betterment of the citizens of mubai so it becomes the duty of the citizens to come forward and volunteer. Individually also we can take preventive measures in order to help BMC reduce mosquito breeding spots.
