The environment refers the totality of man's soroundings including components such as Land, Water bodies and the envelope of air that sorounds us which is reffered to as the atmosphere. It also includes the social and economic aspects of human life.
There is a delicate balance between all the components of the environment for the the benefit of man's existence. Alterations to this balance can have drastic consequences on mans's quest to make use of these components to his advantage. The need then arises to manage efficiently the exploitation of these components and resources that the Environment provides and this gives rise to the need for 'Environmental Planning'
ENVIRONMENTAL PLANNING
Environmental planning is the process that facilitates decision making to carry out development with due consideration given to the natural, social, political, economic environment and governance factors while providing a holistic frame work to achieve sustainable outcomes. It is the ability to analyze environmental issues with a view to making critical decisions.
Environmental Planning is concerned with the decision making processes required for managing relationships that exist within and between natural and human systems. Environmental Planning endeavors to manage these processes in an effective, orderly, transparent and equitable manner for the benefit of all constituents within such systems for now and for future generations.
