Professor: Gary BabelEthics plays a major role in how a company will succeed, depending on the employees hired and the types of Executive level associates hired who has a strong social responsibility background can determine a company’s future. This paper will discuss roles in ethics and social responsibility, and when developing a strategic plan how important it is to consider stakeholder needs and agendas. An example of a company who overstepped their ethical boundaries for stakeholder’s agendas will be given and how to avoid those types of situations will be discussed. According to an article written by N. Nayab he explains how the quest to drive down costs often leads to poor product quality while putting end users at risk. CITATION NNa14 \l 1033 (ab, 2014) Mattel began to get noticed for making such hazardous toys such as the Barbie Doll when they started to use cheaper outside sourcing in China to manufacture some of their toys. Once the toys where finished by the manufacturer and sent back to Mattel research showed that dolls had poorly attached small magnets the could perforate in the intestines of swallowed. Mattel decided to recall these dolls because they became a major hazard. CITATION NNa14 \l 1033 (ab, 2014)Research shows that on August 1, 2007 Mattel recalled almost 1.5 million toys that were made from their outsource manufacturer in China. Potentially there was calculation of 80 toys or more to have contained potentially dangerous levels of lead; the paint that was being used on the toys contained a significant amount of lead. Stanwick, 2010)This wasn’t the end of recalls for Mattel again in the same year there was another major problem that was faced at the toy company; there was a second recall for millions of other toys that were sold by Mattel.
